Tuning
If you care about your piano, you would want it tuned every six to twelve months. The change of season, the onset of summer or winter, a change in humidity, these factors may trigger the need for getting the piano tuned.
The playing style and how often it is played are also factors that contribute to the piano needing to be tuned.
A tuning once a year is the minimum for taking good care of the piano, whether it is being played or not. If the piano is not tuned regularly, the adjustment of the strings to bring it back on concert pitch will cause undue stress on the frame, risking long term damage to the piano.
Touch
If you feel the piano plays unevenly, it may need regulating. This will normally be picked up when the piano is being tuned regularly.
Tone
After years of use, the piano may need voicing to improve its tonal qualities. The purpose is to make the sound of the piano even and pure.
